10 Ways to Make Your Eyes Pop

Your eyes are often the focal point of your face, and enhancing them can instantly elevate your look. Whether you’re getting ready for a special occasion or just want to brighten up your everyday appearance, here are 10 quick and effective tips to make your eyes pop:

1. Use Eyeliner Strategically: Apply a thin line of black or dark brown eyeliner along your upper lash line to define your eyes. For a more dramatic look, add a subtle wing at the outer corner.

My favourite is PRIME PROMETICS PrimeEyes Glide Eyeliner for Mature Women. It is water-resistant, long-wearing and mess-proof with a gel cream texture. It also has a discreet sharpener and effective smudger (Black). Don’t be fooled, it’s not just for the mature gals; this eyeliner is the bomb!

2. Highlight the Inner Corner: Dab a small amount of highlighter or a light, shimmery eyeshadow to the inner corners of your eyes. This trick instantly brightens and opens up your eyes. I love applying my highlighter with a highlighting stick rather than a powder as I feel I have more control over its placement. Using a brush and powder risks dropping particles of highlighter under your eye which is hard to get off without smudging. I use KIMUSE 2PCS Waterproof Eyeshadow/Highlighter Stick Set – it is budget friendly and the two colours are just gorgeous.

3. Curl Your Lashes: Invest in a good quality eyelash curler and use it before applying mascara. Curled lashes create the illusion of larger, more awake eyes.

4. Choose Mascara Wisely: Opt for lengthening or volumizing mascara formulas, depending on your desired effect. Apply two coats to your upper lashes and one coat to the lower lashes for definition.

5. Define Your Brows: Well-groomed brows frame your eyes and enhance their natural shape. Use a brow pencil or powder to fill in any sparse areas and brush them into place with a spoolie brush.

6. Experiment with Eyeshadow: Choose eyeshadow shades that complement your eye colour. For example, warm tones like gold and copper make blue eyes pop, while deep purples and greens enhance brown eyes. I love a nude eyeshadow blend; it is my daytime go-to, and I am loving the Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes 12 Pan Eyeshadow Palette – 001 Nude and when I want to step it up for a night out or a work function, I have been experimenting with the Rimmel London Magnif’Eyes 12 Pan Eyeshadow Palette – #005 Spice.

7. Conceal Dark Circles: Apply a peach-toned or colour-correcting concealer under your eyes to camouflage dark circles and brighten the area. Blend gently with your fingertips or a makeup sponge. As I do have dark undereye circles, I have tried so many correcting concealers and there are some fantastic ones out there – they tend to be quite pricey. I was very surprised when I tried Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer, Brightener (160). It worked just as well as my expensive ones and it has a light-weight feel.

8. Use Eye Drops: If your eyes look tired or red, use hydrating eye drops to refresh and brighten them. This can reduce any redness and make your eyes appear more vibrant.

9. Play with Eyelashes: Consider using false eyelashes or lash extensions for special occasions. They add volume and length to your lashes, making your eyes stand out even more.

There are so many brands and varieties on the market. I have tried a lot of them and some are just so hard to put on because they are simply just flimsy. I made the mistake of buying the big bulk packs which are simply just bad quality! I came across NYX Professional Vegan False Lashes – Ego Flare Style which are not just budget friendly, they are also beautifully full and mimic the natural lash-line with shorter wisps in the inner eye and gradually lengthening toward the outer eye. They come in a pair along with the lash adhesive eyeliner and they can be washed and re-used if taken care of properly. Simply use make-up remover to give them a refresh. NYX Professional Vegan False Lashes also have Fringe Glam Style which are also lovely and full, however the lashes are all the same length for a more dramatic look. Their Wispy Flutter Style still holds a dramatic look, but appears more fluttery as they have more spaces between the lash clusters. All three styles look amazing and will come down to your own personal taste.

10. Practice Good Eye Care: Finally, don’t forget to take care of your eyes. Get enough sleep, stay hydrated, and wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from UV rays, which can prevent premature aging and keep your eyes looking bright and healthy.
